About Caprica

Caprica is an American science fiction drama being shown on Syfy since January 2010.  It throws light on how colonial humanity created robotic cylons, who would plan to put an end to humans as a revenge for their enslavement. It consists of the two hour pilot and subsequent 19 episodes of one hour each.

Caprica is mainly concerned with people intoxicated by success. The series looks into the ethical implications of advances in artificial intelligence and robotics. It focuses on political, corporate and personal scheme. With the concentration of bad relationship between two families, Caprica can be rightly compared with Dallas of the 1980s. It is considered as the first science fiction family saga on the television. Ronald D Moore said that Caprica was not a repeat of Galatica. It has its own identity, content, tone and style.

Series producer Jane Espenson is of the view that Caprica is amazing to watch, with technological wonders, fun and dazzle included.

The series is about the instances before the unification of Twelve Colonies.

Colonial culture is influenced by religious beliefs in Polytheism, which follow multiple God principle. In colonial culture, issues of right and wrong are dealt with a sense of justice and not mercy. Monotheism, which refers to one god theory, is considered to be unacceptable.

The drama is based on two troubled relationships between families of Adamas and Graystones. Joseph Adama, the father of William Adama is a strong defense attorney, but with links to notorious criminals. He migrated to Caprica from Tauron, which is of a mixture of Arab, Greek and Italian cultures. William Adama is involved in a number of challenging environments. It remains to be seen as to how he gets out of the situation.

Daniel Graystone is a computer engineer and a genius in his field. Amanda, a popular surgeon is his wife. Zoe is their daughter. Daniel owns a cooperation that manufactures cylons in the colony of Caprica.  Joseph and Daniel are political opponents.

Zoe has a boy friend, a religious fanatic. It so happened that Zoe was killed in the terrorist attack initiated by him. Joseph Adama’s wife and daughter were also killed in the same attack.

Before her death, she managed to leave her digital impression on a computer. The aggrieved father Daniel planned to create a robotic version of his daughter, capitalizing on his technical knowledge and her digital impression. He succeeded in transferring the consciousness of his daughter into the robot.

She is the first Colonial Cylon. The avatar software is installed in the processor, which is inserted into the robot. This is the beginning of the creation of Cylon, with human appearance, religious fanaticism and inclination to destroy human race.

Zoe is blessed with some of the engineering talent of her father. She manages to bring about a connection between her real world self and her holoband world self. She ‘lives’ in that world after her death. The holoband was indeed invented by her father, who sees her in that world.
